Gamescom 2022 will not mark the return of Sony Interactive Entertainment among other exhibitors looking to reconnect in the old way. Like Nintendo, PlayStation will not be present at Europe’s largest video game trade show, which will make its return from August 24 to 28 in Cologne.
As the website GamesWirtschaft points out, participation in the Opening Night Live ceremony is necessarily linked to a presence in the exhibitor hall. In other words, we already know that we can’t expect any announcements from Nintendo, PlayStation, Activision Blizzard, Take-Two Interactive, and Wargaming at the next conference presented by Geoff Keighley, which is scheduled for August 23.
The absence of PlayStation is obviously another blow to Gamescom, which in normal times could count on the presence of the manufacturer. During the 2019 edition, the latter presented, among others, Death Stranding by Kojima Productions and Marvel’s Iron Man VR by Camouflaj, while hosting partner titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Control on its booth.
According to Gamescom organizers, 60,000 tickets have been sold since the box office opened two weeks ago. To date, Sega, Bandai Namco, Koch Media, THQ Nordic, and Level Infinite are among the top names confirmed to attend the event.
