Gears of War studio show off Unreal Engine 5 tech demo

This week, Epic Games made its show by presenting its Unreal Engine 5 in depth. It was an opportunity to admire some impressive technical demos and one studio particularly shone in this exercise.

At the moment, several Xbox Game Studios teams have chosen to use Epic Games’ new engine. This is for example the case of Undead Lab for State of Decay 3, Ninja Theory with Hellblade II but also Rare, Obsidian, or The Initiative. In this list, it is finally The Coalition that stood out. Indeed, the studio in charge of the Gears of War saga is a strong ambassador for the Unreal Engine 5.

Last July, the Canadian team already unveiled the first technical demo made with the Unreal Engine 5. The Coalition has done it again this week with a second demo entitled The Cavern (see above). You can admire the quality of the lighting and the almost photorealistic modeling of the protagonist’s face.

If there is something to be impressed with, it is important to remember that such visual quality is not representative of what we will see in a real game. We also don’t know if the demo was made on Xbox Series X or on a high-powered PC. Either way, it doesn’t take away from the stunning quality of the demo.
