Lara Croft will be back “soon”. Lately, Crystal Dynamics had abandoned the famous adventurer in favor of Marvel superheroes… But the Tomb Raider saga will have another chance to shine!
Let’s face it, the future of the action-adventure saga remained uncertain until now. Between the disappointing Shadow of the Tomb Raider by Eidos Montreal and the wreckage of Marvel’s Avengers, we didn’t know if Crystal Dynamics would be able to lead the development of yet another epic with Lara Croft. But fans of the license got some great news this week!
Dallas Dickinson, the boss of the Tomb Raider brand at Crystal Dynamics, confirmed the production of a new opus at the event dedicated to Unreal Engine 5. It will obviously use the Epic Games engine to emphasize the realism of the settings while offering a staging worthy of a blockbuster.
Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level. That's why we're proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5! pic.twitter.com/UFMiWzJAZc— Tomb Raider (@tombraider) April 5, 2022
For now, we’ll have to make do with this meager information. The next Tomb Raider is not expected to show up right away, as Dickinson made it clear that development has only just begun.
