State of Decay 3 report details troubled development

All is not well at Xbox. Although Microsoft regularly communicates on the notions of inclusiveness within its teams, one studio seems to be a victim of questionable practices.

Announced in July 2020, State of Decay 3 has not shown itself at all since the release of its first trailer. And apart from the fact that the game will use Unreal Engine 5, we have absolutely no concrete information about this third opus. And there’s a reason behind this silence that has become all too common.

The site Kotaku conducted its little investigation regarding the situation at Undead Labs. According to this investigation, the studio bought by Microsoft in 2018 would be affected by sexist behavior. Women would be severely criticized there, or even totally ignored during meetings. In addition, the director of human resources would be “incompetent” to respond to the solicitations of employees who are victims of such behavior.

But beyond that, it’s the development of State of Decay 3 that is likely in trouble. According to Undead Labs employees, Microsoft announced the game too quickly, at a time when the teams didn’t even know what it would look like. Several reorganizations of the teams were even necessary to finally start production. Thus, it is difficult to know when the State of Decay 3 will be released.
