Russian ‘Loop Hero’ Devs Tell Players to Pirate Their Game Because of Sanctions

Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, it has become difficult for Russian gamers to get games legally. The developer of Loop Hero is encouraging them to pirate his game.

Openly opposed to the conflict, the studio Four Quarters proposes solutions so that Russians can continue to enjoy its game while urging them to instead give their financial support to relatives or people who really need it.

If Steam (unlike Epic Games Store and many others) is still officially online in Russia, gamers have all the trouble in the world to validate their purchases; the credit card networks are mostly cut in the country.

Moreover, and for the same reasons, the studios are unable to receive the fruits of their sales in their bank account.

So many reasons that motivate Four Quarters to push its compatriots to the illegal download of Loop Hero. “We are very grateful for your support, but the truth is that everything is fine with us” the studio wrote in a post on VK. “send this support to your family and friends at this difficult time“.

The independent studio goes further and even shares a link to a torrent that allows you to pirate its game via RuTracker.

Let’s hope the action doesn’t cause more problems for the studio than it already faces. The site Vice reminds us that, since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian government has been hunting for dissident voices. And Four Quarters made it known on February 24 that it was “opposed to the war“.
