Before reaching its ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, Microsoft is working to improve its consoles on the green front with new features.
The Xbox Series X and S can now download updates in power-saving mode.
Microsoft is rolling out a feature to make the Xbox Series X and S more eco-friendly. The Redmond firm’s latest consoles will now be able to download updates in the background with the power-saving mode. “It consumes about 20 times less power than Standby mode when the console is not being used or receiving updates,” says the brand in a post detailing its sustainability efforts.
Microsoft also announced that this power-saving mode is now enabled by default when gamers set up their Xbox Series for the first time. “which offers a significant opportunity to enable energy savings across the entire Xbox ecosystem” says the company. An initiative to be applauded, especially since it does not intend to spare its efforts on the ecological level. The Redmond giant also explains that it has integrated an improved power tracking system on some new consoles. This will allow it to anonymously collect data to better understand how to further reduce the consumption of its consoles.
