E3 2022: Digital Showcase WILL take place this year!

If the video game industry seems to be slowly coming out of its torpor as far as big physical gatherings are concerned, the holding of E3 2022 remained uncertain. In the end, the famous gaming trade show will make a comeback… but not necessarily as we had hoped.

We learned this week that Gamescom will indeed return in August in person. Until now, the European event has been the only major event on the gaming scene in 2022, since the E3 organizers were surprisingly silent. Well, this silence has been broken, but the new information is not really reassuring.

After the cancellation of the physical show in January, the organizers of E3 2022 have probably opted for a digital-only format for the second consecutive time. It is the American classification body ESRB that seems to have confirmed the news to the developers this Thursday via a simple email. We owe this indiscretion to the insider Tom Henderson who is always well informed.

So, contrary to what we had heard at the very beginning of the year, E3 2022 should not be canceled. Unfortunately, holding a dematerialized event is not something to be happy about after a relatively insipid 2021 edition marked by major absences. It remains to be seen if the Californian show will be able to get back on track.
